Strays and Owner Surrender

The South Suburban Humane Society (SSHS) is a managed-admission shelter that accepts all domestic animals, whether stray or owner-surrendered. We understand that sometimes it may be necessary to rehome a pet, and we will do our best to find a new home for yours. However, shelters are places with many animals, strangers, and new routines. They can be stressful for animals accustomed to being in a home environment. Shelters should be used as a last resort.
If you have found a stray animal, please get in touch with the animal control or police department for the town/city where you found the animal. Chances are, if someone is looking for that pet, they will start with their local animal control or police department.
