Learn More

SSHS is often asked whether we will cat-test a dog or whether the dog has been cat-tested. No, and we're happy to tell you why.
1) Many aspects of the shelter environment make it unsuitable for testing, including the size, smells, people, etc. It's not an accurate read and gives the adopter or foster a possibly inaccurate result.

2) Cat testing is highly stressful for cats. When cats get even a little stressed, they get sick, and no one wants that!
3) We're happy to provide a handout about home introductions and help guide you through that process should you choose to pursue it.
4) We will always disclose all information we know about how a dog was in a home with other resident pets. Often, we lack this information, but we are transparent about everything we do know, which can help guide people towards a match that might work.
